  • Aspect Ratio: 2.39:1

Shout! Factory delivers a sharp, clean native 4K presentation for The Hunt. Right away, the Dolby Vision grading enhances the outdoorsy carnage with striking naturalism — earthy greens, rich brown tones, and crimson blood pops against dry, dusty landscapes. The high dynamic range breathes life into both the brighter wide-open daylight sequences and the darker, shadowy indoor moments later in the film. Fine detail — in everything from clothing textures to grit, grime, and foliage — is significantly improved over the original Blu-ray. Faces are natural, sweat and dirt feel tangible, and the gritty handheld cinematography benefits from excellent clarity and no noticeable compression artifacts. Black levels are deep and consistent with no notable crush, helping the tense nighttime action sequences maintain their sharpness and dread. Overall, an excellent 4K upgrade with filmic texture and intensity.

Audio – 5.0/5

  • Audio Tracks:
    • English Dolby Atmos
    • English Dolby TrueHD 7.1
    • English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1
    • English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0
  • Subtitles: English SDH

The new Dolby Atmos track is explosive and atmospheric, just as a chaotic survival thriller should be. Gunshots ring out from every corner of the room, arrows zip through the overheads, and environmental sounds — rustling trees, footsteps, barking dogs — swirl all around you. When the action heats up, bass response is thunderous, giving weight to gunfire, crashes, and hand-to-hand combat. The vertical space is used well without being overblown — debris, bullets, and chaos fly naturally above and around the listener. Dialogue remains crisp and firmly anchored in the front, even during the most intense sequences. Ambient noise (birds, insects, creaking wood) also nicely fills the soundstage during quieter scenes. A big, immersive audio upgrade that’s easily reference quality for a thriller of this type.

Special Features and Extras – 3.5/5

(On Blu-ray Disc only)

  • Crafting The Hunt (HD, 5 min) – A brief behind-the-scenes look at the satire elements, action choreography, and political commentary in the film.
  • Death Scene Breakdowns (HD, 3 min) – Quick looks at staging some of the outrageous kill scenes.
  • Athena vs. Crystal: Anatomy of a Fight (HD, 3 min) – Dissects the brutal final showdown between Betty Gilpin and Hilary Swank.
  • Theatrical Trailer (HD, 2 min) – The original promo that plays up the controversial premise.

The extras are light but fitting for the film’s tone — short, punchy, and straightforward.

Overall – 4.5/5

The Hunt is a fast, vicious, darkly comedic spin on “man-hunts-man” horror, anchored by a brilliant deadpan performance from Betty Gilpin. Shout! Factory’s new 4K release offers a terrific upgrade: a beautifully textured Dolby Vision transfer and an Atmos track that punches like a shotgun blast. While the extras are brief, the technical merits make this the definitive version for fans.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for fans of brutal satire, tense action, and those who enjoy genre mashups like Battle Royale and Ready or Not.
