Mickey 17 (2025) – Blu-ray Disc Review
Format: Blu-ray + Digital 4K | Studio: Warner Bros.
Release Date: May 13, 2025 | ⏱️ Runtime: 137 Minutes | Rated R
Genre: Sci-Fi, Drama, Adventure | Director: Bong Joon Ho
️ Video Quality – 4.0/5
Presented in 1080p with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio, the Blu-ray for Mickey 17 delivers a solid high-definition image, though it understandably lacks the refined clarity and dynamic contrast of its 4K counterpart. Fine detail is good, particularly in close-ups and costuming, and the film’s heavy production design still shines in HD, even if the overall picture is slightly softer due to the director’s use of diffusion filters and stylistic haze.
Color reproduction is stable but not as punchy or vivid as the Dolby Vision grading on the UHD. Black levels are deep, though shadow detail sometimes flattens in the darkest scenes. Compression is well-managed, with no major artifacts or macroblocking.
Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1
Region: A (B, C untested)
Audio Quality – 5.0/5
The Blu-ray features a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track that holds up extremely well against the Atmos offering on the 4K disc. Dialogue is clear and centered, with strong front separation and immersive surround design. Action scenes light up the room with clean panning and impactful low-end presence. Ambient effects—such as ship hums, wind, and environmental cues—are active across the soundstage, keeping the film engaging even in quiet scenes.
Jung Jae-il’s haunting score is rendered with excellent fidelity and dynamic range, delivering emotional weight throughout the film.

Movie & Final Thoughts – 3.0/5
Mickey 17 is a visually inventive sci-fi parable loaded with ambition and themes of identity, mortality, and individuality—but not all of it lands. Pattinson commits to his dual performance, and Bong Joon Ho brings his signature eye for metaphor and mood. Yet a thin script, uneven pacing, and questionable tone prevent it from joining the director’s top-tier work like Parasite or Snowpiercer.
Still, it’s bold, original sci-fi—worth exploring for genre fans and Bong enthusiasts alike.
Overall Blu-ray Score – 3.5/5
✅ Recommended with reservations. The Blu-ray offers a strong A/V experience with good detail and immersive sound, plus just enough behind-the-scenes content. If you’re not concerned about owning the 4K version, this is a respectable high-def edition of a challenging but imaginative film.
