️ Video – 5.0 out of 5
The 1080p Blu-ray presentation benefits from the same 4K restoration as the UHD disc, offering a major leap over previous standard Blu-ray editions. Color reproduction is rich and filmic, with excellent skin tones and sharp texture detail across sets and costumes. While not as punchy as the Dolby Vision version, the Blu-ray transfer remains vibrant, clean, and cinematic, with great dynamic range for SDR. Minor fluctuations in density appear in a few scenes but do not detract from the overall visual appeal.
Audio – 5.0 out of 5
Both the original 2.0 stereo and the 5.1 DTS-HD MA remix are carried over to the Blu-ray. The 2.0 mix preserves the theatrical authenticity with crisp dialogue and well-balanced levels. The 5.1 track offers light surround enhancement during action-heavy sequences, adding more dimensionality without overwhelming the original design. No hiss or age-related issues were detected—dialogue remains clear throughout.
Special Features – 2.5 out of 5
• Audio Commentary by Bryan Reesman and Max Evry
• Fair Play: Remembering Colin Higgins (16 min) – A tribute featuring sound editor Nicholas Eliopoulos and archival footage
• Original Theatrical Trailer (2 min)
• TV Spot (1 min)
• UK Radio Spot (1 min)
⭐ Overall – 3.5 out of 5
This newly remastered Blu-ray offers a terrific HD viewing experience, showcasing Foul Play in the best possible light for those without 4K setups. Backed by a sharp transfer, clean audio, and a few solid extras, it’s an easy recommendation. Whether revisiting the film or discovering it for the first time, this disc is a great addition to any classic comedy-thriller collection.
