Film Synopsis

A normal day turns into a nightmare when a massive explosion traps a group of survivors inside the Holland Tunnel beneath New York City. With water rising, oxygen depleting, and fire raging, their only hope is ex-EMS chief Kit Latura (Sylvester Stallone), who must navigate the deadly wreckage and lead them to safety.

Directed by Rob Cohen (The Fast and the Furious, Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story), Daylight is a high-stakes disaster thriller featuring impressive practical effects, heart-pounding suspense, and classic ‘90s action. Also starring Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Stan Shaw, and Dan Hedaya, the film remains a nostalgic action-packed survival story.

Blu-ray Video Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.0/5)

This Blu-ray features a 1080p transfer sourced from the new 4K restoration, ensuring a noticeable improvement over previous home media releases.

Visual Highlights

Sharper Detail: The remastered image retains strong textures and depth, especially in close-ups of characters, debris, and water effects.
Improved Color Grading: Skin tones appear more natural, while fire and explosions have a richer vibrancy than past Blu-ray editions.
Stronger Black Levels: Dark tunnel sequences maintain a solid contrast—but some moments still show minor crushing in shadows.
Stable Grain Structure: While film grain is well-maintained, some softer shots—especially VFX-heavy moments—reveal the film’s age.

Overall, while the Blu-ray lacks the enhanced depth and dynamic range of the 4K UHD, it still delivers a solid and clean HD presentation.

DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Sound Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.0/5)

Though this Blu-ray does not include a Dolby Atmos upgrade, it features a well-balanced and immersive DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix.

Sound Highlights

Explosions, collapsing tunnels, and water surges are well-spaced across surround channels, enhancing immersion.
Dialogue remains crisp and clear, even during high-intensity moments.
Low-end bass (LFE) delivers solid impact, particularly during the explosion and tunnel collapse sequences.
Surround effects like distant screams, rushing water, and echoing voices add to the claustrophobic atmosphere.

The included 2.0 stereo mix also provides a more centralized audio experience, ideal for viewers without a surround sound setup.
