4K Ultra HD Disc Information

Video

  • Codec: HEVC / H.265 (94.14 Mbps)
  • Resolution: Native 4K (2160p)
  • HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10
  • Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1
  • Original Camera Negative Restoration

Arrow Films delivers a newly restored 4K presentation of Alice, Sweet Alice, offering stunning visual clarity while preserving the film’s gritty, grain-heavy texture. Colors are dramatically enhanced by HDR, giving iconic imagery like Alice’s yellow raincoat or the deep reds of church scenes a vivid punch. This is easily the film’s best home video presentation to date, although purists who prefer smoother grain may still lean toward Arrow’s previous 1080p Blu-ray. Regardless, fine detail and color fidelity shine, especially during the film’s candlelit interiors and horror-tinged dream sequences.

Audio

  • English LPCM Mono (48kHz, 24-bit)

The original mono track, sourced from the optical negative, offers solid fidelity with clean dialogue and surprisingly rich depth. While it can sound slightly limited in range during intense scenes, the audio is consistent, authentic, and free of distortion—an excellent preservation of the film’s original sound design.

Subtitles

  • English SDH

Bonus Features (4K UHD Disc)

  • 3 Seamless Branching Cuts:
    • Communion (Uncut version)
    • Alice, Sweet Alice (Theatrical cut)
    • Holy Terror (Re-release version)
  • Audio Commentary (New) – Richard Harland Smith
  • Audio Commentary (Archival) – Director Alfred Sole and editor Edward Salier with Bill Lustig
  • First Communion: Alfred Sole Remembers Alice, Sweet Alice (18 min)
  • Alice on My Mind – Interview with composer Stephen Lawrence (15 min)
  • In the Name of the Father – Interview with actor Niles McMaster (16 min)
  • Lost Childhood: The Locations of Alice, Sweet Alice – Michael Gingold tour (16 min)
  • Sweet Memories: Dante Tomaselli on Alice, Sweet Alice (11 min)
  • Deleted Scenes (HD, 3 min)
  • Version Comparison – Title sequence variations (2 min)
  • Original Trailer (HD)
  • UK TV Spot (HD)
  • Image Galleries

⚖️ Final Verdict: Divine Terror in 4K

✔️ Pros:

  • Brand-new 4K restoration from OCN
  • Dolby Vision HDR adds vivid color separation
  • 3 cuts via seamless branching
  • Excellent mono restoration
  • Packed with thoughtful bonus features and high-quality packaging

Cons:

  • No Blu-ray included (4K-only)
  • Chunky grain may be off-putting for some

FINAL THOUGHTS:
With religious symbolism, disturbing childlike innocence, and vintage slasher aesthetics, Alice, Sweet Alice remains one of the most unsettling American horror films of the 1970s. Arrow’s 4K UHD limited edition gives the film an authoritative upgrade, boasting stunning visuals and an impressive slate of extras. It’s not just an upgrade—it’s a resurrection.
