The Order arrives on Blu-ray with a muted but cinematic visual aesthetic that complements its heavy subject matter. Alberta’s icy backdrops, standing in for the Pacific Northwest, are beautifully captured, especially in golden hour or snow-filtered scenes. There’s a cool, somber tone that runs throughout, and filtered lighting—especially through windows or across dim interiors—adds a brooding visual contrast. Detail holds up nicely in midrange and close-ups, but black levels can sometimes fall short, with occasional crush and uneven gradation. Though overall sharp and well-graded, the image does suffer slightly from compression limitations on this BD-25 disc.
Audio
- English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 16-bit)
Despite an erroneous back cover credit that lists “Dolby Digital,” this disc actually includes a solid DTS-HD 5.1 track. Dialogue is always intelligible and front-centered, but the soundstage opens wide during shootouts, rallies, and tense investigative sequences. Surround elements are used sparingly but effectively, and Jed Kurzel’s score delivers real punch, adding emotional weight and dread when needed. The lack of an Atmos track is noticeable, especially for a film originally mixed for one, but this 5.1 track performs impressively regardless.

❌ Special Features
Unfortunately, this is a barebones release with no bonus features, commentaries, or behind-the-scenes material. The real-life context of the story screams for at least a featurette or documentary short. Fingers crossed for a boutique label release in the future.
⭐ Final Verdict
Movie: ★★★½
️ Video: ★★★★☆
Audio: ★★★★½
Extras: N/A
Overall: ★★★½
Justin Kurzel’s The Order is a sharp and unsettling domestic terrorism thriller that leans into historical fact without glorifying its subjects. Jude Law transforms in one of his most grounded and quietly intense performances. While the Blu-ray presentation from Vertical Entertainment isn’t reference-quality, it delivers strong A/V performance for the price. Lack of extras aside, this is a Recommended pickup for fans of true crime cinema and political thrillers alike.
