Video Quality
Universal delivers a strong native 4K transfer sourced from a recent restoration. The grain structure is intact, providing a very film-like image. Detail in cityscapes and crowd scenes is excellent, and HDR10 brings added depth to the destruction sequences with improved contrast and shadow detail. Colors are natural yet vibrant, avoiding the oversaturation of earlier home releases.
Audio Quality
The Dolby Atmos track is the standout, expanding the original Sensurround experience with modern height and spatial effects. Low-frequency effects during the earthquake sequences are powerful without distortion. The DTS-HD Master Audio 2.1 track preserves the original Sensurround mix for purists, while the mono option caters to historical authenticity. Dialogue remains clear across all tracks.
Special Features
- Theatrical Trailer
- Original Sensurround Audio Mix (2.1)
- Optional Mono Track
Note: While the restoration is impressive, bonus content is minimal compared to legacy editions.
✅ Overall Recommendation
For fans of classic disaster cinema, Earthquake on 4K Ultra HD is worth picking up for the picture upgrade and Atmos mix alone. The minimal extras may disappoint collectors who value behind-the-scenes material, but the technical presentation is top tier.
