Creepshow 2 (1987) – 4K Ultra HD Disc Review

Arrow Video | 92 min | R | Release Date: August 20, 2024
Genres: Horror, Anthology, Dark Comedy

Video Quality – 4.5 / 5

Arrow’s brand-new 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative is easily the best Creepshow 2 has ever looked. The transfer, graded in Dolby Vision and HDR10, showcases a pleasingly filmic texture with natural grain and rich, saturated colors. The animated wraparound sequences benefit from the HDR contrast — reds, greens, and comic-book yellows pop with gorgeous intensity.

  • “Old Chief Wood’nhead” exhibits authentic skin tones and weathered textures across dusty, sunbaked exteriors.
  • “The Raft” is a standout, with the dark water scenes maintaining excellent shadow separation and no banding.
  • “The Hitchhiker” gains significant clarity, especially in headlights, makeup detail, and the rainy nighttime palette.
Black levels are deep but stable, and fine detail—hair, fabric, and gore effects—shine in 4K. Arrow’s encode is clean and free of compression artifacts.

Audio Quality – 4 / 5

Presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 Stereo, the remaster offers a robust yet faithful sound field. Dialogue remains anchored, while the pulpy score by Les Reed and Rick Wakeman spreads evenly through the front channels. Surround use is subtle but effective during ambient moments like wind, creaking wood, and The Raft’s eerie movement beneath the surface. Bass is modest but tight, and overall tonal balance is warm without harsh highs.

Special Features – 5 / 5

Arrow packs this release with superb extras for fans of both the film and EC-inspired horror:

  • Audio Commentary with Director Michael Gornick and DP Richard P. Rubinstein
  • “Tales from the Creep” – brand-new making-of documentary (Arrow exclusive)
  • “Poncho’s Last Ride” – interview with actor Daniel Beer (“The Raft”)
  • “Screen to Comic” – featurette on adapting Stephen King & George A. Romero’s vision
  • Behind-the-Scenes Gallery
  • Archival Interviews and Trailers
  • Reversible Sleeve and Fold-Out Poster
  • Collector’s Booklet with new essay by film historian Michael Blyth

An outstanding supplemental set that honors the film’s cult legacy.

⚖️ Overall – 4.5 / 5 ⭐

Arrow’s 4K UHD of Creepshow 2 is a must-own for horror collectors. The Dolby Vision image is a clear leap beyond any previous edition, and the bonus content dives deep into its production history. While it lacks the dense grain refinement of Creepshow (1982)’s restoration, it delivers atmosphere, texture, and nostalgia in equal measure — a bloody good time from Arrow’s vaults.
