Casper (1995) – Blu-ray Disc Review
Universal Pictures | 100 min | PG | 2024 Blu-ray sourced from new 4K master
Genres: Family • Fantasy • Comedy
Video Quality — 4 / 5
The Blu-ray uses the same new restoration as the UHD, down-converted to 1080p. It is a major improvement over all older Blu-ray and DVD releases:
- Noticeably cleaner and sharper than the legacy Blu-ray
- Grain is retained and not scrubbed
- Color timing is corrected — no more dull, gray cast
- Whipstaff interiors and ghost effects look far more polished
Lacks HDR’s contrast “pop,” so lighting and highlights are flatter versus the 4K, but still a very strong HD presentation.
Audio Quality — 4 / 5
Same DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix as the UHD disc:
- Dialogue crisp and centered
- Score spreads nicely across the front stage
- Surrounds active during haunt sequences
- LFE present without distortion
Blends family-film clarity with 90s fantasy production energy.
Special Features — 3 / 5
Carries over the same extras set from the UHD package:
- Legacy behind-the-scenes featurettes
- Cast / crew archival interviews
- VFX / production mini-docs
- Trailer / TV spots
- Subtitles included
No Blu-ray-exclusive materials.
⚖️ Overall — 4 / 5 ⭐
This Blu-ray is an excellent HD representation built from the new 4K master. While the UHD is the definitive version thanks to HDR, the Blu-ray stands on its own as a clean, corrected, and highly watchable upgrade for anyone viewing in 1080p.
