Abigail (2024/2025) – Blu-ray Disc Review

Shout! Factory | 110 min | R | Release Date: July 8, 2025
Genres: Horror, Thriller, Vampire

Disc Specs

  • Blu-ray Disc (BD-50) included in the 4K + Blu-ray combo
  • Resolution: 1080p High Definition
  • Aspect Ratio: 2.39:1 (widescreen)
  • Audio: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0
  • Subtitles: English SDH

Video Quality

The Blu-ray transfer looks very good, with sharp detail and solid contrast. While you don’t get the brightness depth and shadow nuance of HDR, colors remain strong and detail in darker scenes holds up well. Textures in costumes, sets, and gore effects are crisp for HD. Film grain is present and natural.

Audio Quality

The DTS-HD 5.1 mix provides effective surround activity. Jump scares, ambient noises, and the score fill the soundstage well. Dialogue is clean and balanced. The 2.0 stereo mix offers a simpler but faithful alternative. Though less expansive than Atmos, the 5.1 track delivers a strong horror experience in HD.

Special Features (on Blu-ray)

  • Audio commentary with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett and editor Michael Shawver
  • Audio commentary with film critic Drew McWeeny
  • Deleted & extended scenes (approx. 6:52)
  • 2025 interviews with co-writers Guy Busick, Stephen Shields, production designer Susie Cullen, cinematographer Aaron Morton
  • Slipcover included with first pressing of the combo

✅ Overall Recommendation

The Blu-ray disc is an excellent option if you don’t yet have a 4K setup. It delivers a clean HD presentation with strong sound and all of the same extras as the UHD. For collectors or horror fans who want Abigail in their library, this Blu-ray stands well on its own — though the 4K disc offers the superior experience if you’re equipped for it.
