Video Quality (3.8/5):
The 4K presentation, sourced from the original camera negative, delivers improved clarity, color depth, and dynamic range. Darker scenes are particularly impressive, with deep blacks and well-defined shadows creating a suspenseful atmosphere. However, brighter scenes occasionally exhibit an overly sharp appearance, sometimes giving the visuals a digitally processed look. The Dolby Vision HDR grade enhances contrast and color saturation, contributing to a visually engaging experience. Despite some inconsistencies, the 4K transfer is the preferred way to watch the film.

Audio Quality (5.0/5):
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track excels in creating an immersive soundscape, capturing the submarine’s mechanical groans, distant whispers, and depth charge explosions with precision and intensity. Dialogue is consistently clear, and dynamic range is excellent. The DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track provides a solid alternative, offering good depth and clarity for stereo setups.

Special Features (3.0/5):
The included extras are informative and provide valuable context about the film’s production, design, and genre influences. The director’s commentary is particularly insightful, shedding light on the challenges and creative decisions behind the film.
Overall Score: 3.8/5
Below offers a unique blend of wartime drama and supernatural suspense, enhanced by its atmospheric setting and immersive sound design. The 4K Ultra HD edition, sourced from a 4K restoration, provides improved video quality with deeper blacks and richer colors, though some scenes exhibit digital sharpness. With excellent audio and engaging special features, this release is the definitive version of the film. Recommended for fans of submarine thrillers and supernatural horror.
